China's Foreign Minister Set for Africa Tour

(MENAFN) China's foreign minister embarks on a seven-day African diplomatic mission starting Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry announced.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi will traverse Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, and Lesotho between Jan. 7 and 12, ministry officials confirmed in a formal statement.

Wang's itinerary includes presiding over the inaugural ceremony for the China-Africa "year of people-to-people exchanges" at the African Union headquarters located in Addis Ababa.

The diplomatic tour represents an unprecedented tradition—marking the 36th unbroken year that African nations have served as the inaugural international destination for China's foreign minister annually, the ministry highlighted.

Beijing has maintained its position as Africa's dominant trade partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral commerce hitting $282.1 billion throughout 2023.
